Written By Allen - August 4th, 2009
As a railfan, I am often asked which subway gets you to the new Yankee Stadium fastest. Well it’s clear from the video below that it’s the 4 train. The video below which I found on Subchat shows a race between the B, D and 4 trains from midtown Manhattan to Yankee Stadium. As one of my friends pointed out, the D is not blue in real life. Of course the trains are longer than one car, they don’t share the same tracks and the B is a local so it should never win a race. It’s sponsored by Subway (the sandwich place) and if you ignore all the transit mistakes, it’s a whole hoot of fun! The French Show Us How It’s Done…That’s Fast.

Everyone always wants trains to go faster. Here in the northeast U.S, we have “Acela” which is supposed to be very fast but it seems to get to about 125 miles per hour max for about 5 minutes. Below is a video from France that shows a test train that hits an amazing 574.8 kilometres per hour. For us Americans, that’s over 350 miles per hour. Or nearly three times as fast as the fastest thing we’ve got here. Even if you don’t care about trains, you should still watch the video. It’s put together like a movie promo and gets your heart going as they continue to speed up. I sure hope one day in my lifetime we see trains like this around the world. Now I’ve seen it all: a horse on the subway!

Hmm – we’ve seen a dog on the subway in Russia. We’ve also seen plenty of rats on the tracks in NYC. But never a horse…until today that is. Here’s a video of a horse on the Tokyo metro subway. You will note that the horse is pretty calm and even has time to read the local newspaper. The horse also has time to take photos with other subway riders. You will note that other subway riders look on in amazement at a horse in the subway. The Bus Bike Rack Rap

I have got a video for you today that will just blow the house down. It’s the BBRR from the TARC – that’s the Bus Bike Rack Rap music video for you newbs. My favorite part is when the woman raps “then it’s done…then it’s done”. The TARC is the Transit Authority of River City which is basically Louisville. Build Your Own Sushi Train
Written By Allen - July 10th, 2009
A couple of years ago I was in London and found a sushi bar that had a little train that went all around the table with little sushi plates on it. You took whatever you liked and paid by the total number of plates that you ate. Now Strapya-World out of Japan has created a kit so you can create your own Sushi Train at home. It’s $66 and damn if I don’t want one for my birthday. You must check out the video below for how it works and all of the photos as well. There is even a little controller thingy that looks like a real train – but keep it at a slow speed or your eel roll will be getting mixed with your california roll. Tokyo Mango has put together their list of reasons why everyone should have a Sushi Train at home. Here’s a teaser from their list, “The kit comes with chopsticks and fake sushi, so you can use it as a tool to teach kids how to properly use chopsticks and eat fake sushi.”
There are even real sushi sounds that come with the train set. No seriously, there is a sound set. How come we don’t have an Amtrak hot dog train or a German ICE Bratwurst train? How To Buy a Tokyo Metro Subway Ticket
Written By Allen - July 4th, 2009
If you are planning to visit Tokyo and ride the subway there, below is a quick video on how to purchase a subway ticket. Some of the machines will allow you to switch to English but the machine is very easy to use. Just put in your bills (in Yen), select the price for the metro ticket you need and it will print below plus return any change. Here are a couple videos that will help you with your purchase. Apparently if you select English, the machine announces that you have selected English. How To Transfer At Union Square – With Bonus Motion Sickness
Written By Allen - July 2nd, 2009
Here at InsideTransit we like to educate new residents or tourists to a variety of cities around the world in how to properly use mass transit. In the video below, you can watch one person (we believe a man) transfer from the L train to the 4 or 5 trains at Union Square. Union Square is an interesting station because the ground moves to meet the train due to the huge curves that the train moves through. So please mind the gap as you enter or exit a subway train at this station. Bonus: as you watch the video, you may feel a bit woozy – just know that this is not actually how it feels to make the transfer unless you are drunk. Old NYC World’s Fair Subway Commercial
Written By Allen - July 1st, 2009
Found via Subchat, here’s a very old NYC subway commercial that’s related to the World’s Fair. The idea was to get people to take the subway to the WF instead of other forms of transportation. Look how clean the subway cars are and how happy everyone looks. The Watermelon Truck
Written By Allen - June 21st, 2009
Here’s something you don’t see everyday…. a watermelon truck. Apparently the driver is selling watermelons for 5 thousand Wan each. At the end it appears that the couple on the motorbike really want some watermelon as they race after the truck. My only question is… are they seedless watermelons? |
