An Excellent German Bahn Photoblog

Found via German railfan Till, here’s a link to an excellent photoblog from Germany. The text is in German but you can navigate and view all of the photos. I love the angle of all of the photos – this guy takes time to create awesome photographs.

Here’s the latest photo:

The Sardine Train in Sydney

Today’s photo comes from Sydney, Australia. Here we see a very crowded rush-hour train – interestingly people are holding on to the ceiling of the train car. It’s rare to see that here in the states – maybe less deodorant is used here. I think at least another dozen people could easily fit – that mean on the left is taking a lot of extra space.

Here’s what it looks like from the inside:

Today’s Photo: WTF Signs in Zurich Subway

Today’s transit photo comes to us from Zurich, Switzerland. It is a warning sign of some sort – leave your thoughts on what the icons mean in the comments – I’ve cut the photo into two pieces for ease of viewing.

My thoughts on what the icons mean:

  1. smoking on the subway will lead to the head  becoming a cloud of the person in front of you
  2. don’t ride the subway if you have no money in your pockets or show the inside of your pockets so robbers know you have no money
  3. do not play the guitar but piano is fine
  4. you may carry a large saw on the subway just do not use it to cut up a seat
  5. do not put feet on another seat

Transit Photo of the Day – May 11

Here’s today’s transit photo of the day – the first one. I’ve decided to add this feature to InsideTransit as a way to honor those who take awesome transit photos – something I wish I could do!

This one comes from Lisbon, Portugal.

Miss Subways Through The Years

Between 1941 and 1976 NYC held the “Miss Subways pageant” where a woman would be crowned Miss Subways for a year. My guess is that there was less drama with Miss Subways than there is with Miss USA!

The Infrastructurist has a good recap of the yearly event and they note, “The Miss Subways contest, sponsored by the New York Subways Advertising agency, was designed to draw more attention to ads in subway cars. Pictures of the reigning Miss Subways along with a short description of her interests and aspirations were posted among the ads.”

Meet Miss Subways is on display through May 30, 2009 at Rush Art Galleries in Manhattan. The gallery is located on 23rd street between 10th and 11th avenues. I am going to try to head over there before the gallery is removed.
