We have always found the tube very tourist friendly and don't forget challenging. It took us awhile to figure out why we always got a seat--we were the oldest people on the train. Our cousins waited for us to come back home at night so we could relate the humorous tales of our day traveling the underground. We can't wait to return this Sept and see what new challenges we'll face.

The best travel tip for London is to buy an "Oyster" card - a stored value e-card that can be used on the tube, on buses and on surface rail throughout Greater London. It gives great savings, for example - one tube ride in the central area is £4 cash but only £1.50 with an Oyster. You just transfer credit from your credit card onto the Oyster at machines at tube stations and use it until its all gone - then load some more. Oyster is available to visitors as well as residents and as it requires no photo ID is transferable between users (although only one user at a time). Only mugs pay cash in London!
