No More Booze On The London Tube

Comments

Last night was the last time that you could legally drink alcohol on the London Underground. As of this morning, it’s now illegal. The ban will be implemented across London’s entire transport network including the tube, buses, trams and Docklands Light Railway. The BBC suggests that this is to help control "anti-social" behavior.

Te Rail Maritime and Transport (RMT) Union’s leader Bob Crow said: "We are in favour of any measure that will make our members’ lives safer and curb anti-social behaviour, but it appears that this really hasn’t been thought through very well and could well make matters worse."

I believe in New York, you can drink on commuter rail (LIRR, Metro-North) along with Amtrak. But there’s no drinking on the subway or on a bus.

There was a huge party in central London to celebrate (?) the last public drinking on the tube. There were 17 arrests and many trains were damaged from the party. Many stations were closed due to the event which mainly took place on the Circle line — funny, it was called the "last round" — the Circle Line goes around.

A tube passenger captured the video below of the party:
