The next time you hop onto your local subway and say "boy this is crowded" — check out the video below for what it could be like. This video comes from Japan via some German tourists. As you can see, they really do push you into the train! And from the looks of it, they could easily fit at least one more. At least they wear gloves!
And if you think that one is bad, check out this one. Forty or more people pushed with force into a train packed like absolute sardines. My question is – how do they get out!
Here’s another from Yokohama, Japan. This time it’s the passengers who are the pushers. Damn.

Yeah, this happened to me a few times in Tokyo with the pushman. It gets crowded enough where breathing was a bit difficult. For tourist, it’s a cool experience for once or twice. But otherwise, waiting for the next train is quick because the Japanese Trains are always, always on time. If they are ever late, they can apologize profusely over the intercom for minutes! Awesome.
Yea, I’d totally love to do it once or twice! I wonder what women and young children think about the pushing.
Women in crowded trains in Japan are prone to groping and harassment. So there are now women only cars for trains.
wow that’s interesting Howard – I will look for photos of this train cars – makes sense though. I wonder what the percentage is of men/women on Japanese trains
Hey Allen, here’s some articles:
