Green European Public Transportation

We received this story via a transit insider this evening. The story is from the Inhabitat blog and is worth checking out. They have posted images from trams in Europe that have lined their tracks and adjoining areas with grass and other landscaping.

The European trams always look so sleek and efficient compared to so many of the public transportation systems in the U.S.

The article agrees noting, "Much like green roofs, these swaths of green provide a host of benefits to any urban area, like reducing urban heat island effect, providing a permeable surface for storm water to infiltrate, and reducing pollution. And did we mention that it looks so much prettier than concrete or asphalt? We wish the public transportation in the US looked this good."

  • A better world IS possible. And, actually, cheaper. The private auto is subsidized waste.
  • Talking about Europe, the city of Munich, in Germany, has been doing this for some time already.

    There is a new tram line in construction, you can see in this picture how the project is totally integrated with the environment. Looks wonderful:
