Chicago Transit to Passengers: You Shall Stand!

Comments

Coming out of the city who believes pizza is supposed to be 9" deep, the CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) has decided to remove all of the seats from at least 2 subway cars on each train during rush hours. This is done to help ease overcrowding. The Chicago Tribune notes that if the seats are removed, another 25-50 passengers can ride.

Don’t worry about falling over when the train comes to a halt. The CTA will put in lots of grab bars for security and prevention.

I’ve always wondered why they don’t remove the seats on the Times Square shuttle in NYC. The shuttle gets packed during rush hour and the trip is about 45 seconds. Rip out those seats!

Check out our Chicago Transit guide to learn more about how the system works and how to ride when you visit Chicago.
