An important announcement from Amtrak is below. I can’t even imagine how this is going to completely screw travel between NYC and Boston for 3 days. Luckily 2 of the 3 days are on the weekend but even then, it will be a disaster. A bus instead? I wonder how much the airlines have jacked up prices on their NYC-Boston shuttles.
Here are the important details:
Between Sunday, June 14 and Tuesday, June 17, Amtrak will replace the movable span of the 90-year-old Thames River Bridge, located between Groton and New London, Connecticut. To accommodate this project, service cancellations will be made affecting travel between Boston, New Haven and New York.
This is the final stage of a multi-year project designed to improve the reliability of the bridge, reduce the chance of operational failures and minimize train delays.
During this four-day track outage, Amtrak will also perform a maintenance "blitz" between Boston and New Haven that will provide passengers with a smoother ride and significantly improve the reliability of the railroad.
June 14 through June 17
- All Acela Express service will be cancelled between Boston and New York.
- All Regional trains will be cancelled between Boston and New Haven (by way of Providence) while some Regional trains will be cancelled between New Haven and New York.
- Service between New Haven and Springfield will not be affected during this four-day period.
June 15 through June 17
- June 15 through June 17, Amtrak will add a special northbound and southbound train that will operate between Washington, New Haven and Boston by way of Springfield.
June 18 - On June 18, Regional Trains 95 and 171 will be cancelled between Boston and New Haven.
- All other trains will operate according to the published schedules.
